Disney is paying 4.5 billion($) to buy Lucasfilm Ltd., the production company behind Star Wars.
Disney has bought Lucasfilm Ltd. from its chairman and founder, George Lucas. They plan to make a seventh movie in the “Star Wars” series called “Episode 7,” which is set for release in 2015. Plans have been made to follow it with Episodes 8 and 9 and then one new film every two or three years.
Despite handing over the reins Lucas will continue to be involved in the Star Wars series as a creative consultant. In a statement Lucas said:
“It’s now time for me to pass `Star Wars’ on to a new generation of film-makers.”
This deal has brought Lucasfilm under the Disney banner with other brands. These include Pixar, Marvel, ESPN and ABC, all companies that Disney has acquired over the years.
So what do you think about Star Wars starting a new direction?
